Trust me – I know we make “kind of” a big deal when we feature bands and artists from the PEV backyard of Baltimore-Washington. We’re not playing favorites – we just really like it here! And while we’ve had our fair share of home-grown talent, our latest installment of XXQ’s comes from a band that’s REALLY native to the PEV home base; DC-minded rock outfit Hotspur.

One of the hottest up and coming hip-hop duos has been amassing a loyal following right in our backyard of Washington, DC – and PEV is finally catching on. The twins of Clabo have just about everything going their way (hell, DJ’s are already drawing rhyme comparisons to Jay-Z) – and now they’re finally in the studio pulling the tunes together.

Us DC natives love artists like Kim Cameron – the kind of musician working her ass off not only to get her music out there… but to maybe help bring the DC scene into a little light. She’s come a long way; from a backup singer in a cover band to now working for her own label. It’s the kind of attitude we at PensEyeView.com aspire to – work on your passion and forget the naysayers.

If you venture out into another one of our backyards – Washington, DC – you likely don’t think of it as being home to some essential roots reggae… but boy would you be surprised. I’ve heard my share of great roots acts between Baltimore and Washington, but none may be more talented than Dub City Renegades, a collection of artists loyal to true roots reggae; studying it, appreciating it and sharing it.
